Spotting your first grey hair can be a traumatizing experience.
What’s even more shocking is finding the little terrors in your pubic
hair.
Before you go on a plucking rampage (ouch!),
know that it’s a totally normal rite of passage. “Just like the hair on
your head, as you age, the hair in the pubic area will also thin and
gray,” says Sejal Shah, M.D., a New York City dermatologist and RealSelf
contributor.
The fact that your pubic hair will go grey is a sure thing—but
exactly when is not so clear-cut. That’s because your genes run the
show, so it could happen for you at a completely different time than
your friends.
And it may not even happen at the same time that the hair on your head starts to lose its hue, says Shah.
Your ponytail strands will grey first, and then the hair downstairs will
start to turn, says Wendy Askew, M.D., an ob-gyn with the Institute for
Women’s Health in San Antonio.
Up to 23 per cent of the population has at least 50 per cent grey
coverage (on their heads, mind you) by their 50th birthdays, according
to a study published in the British Journal of Dermatology. If you think
your lady curtains are greying prematurely, a lack of vitamin B12 or a
gland disorder in the thyroid or the pituitary could be to blame, says
Shah. Or, you could have a skin condition called vitiligo if the greying
is accompanied by white patches on the skin, she says. Read also: 5 Nigerian stews and sauces you can make without tomatoes
Research has shown these are the most common reasons for premature
greying on the head, but there’s reason to believe they could contribute
to greying in the nether region as well, explains Shah.
So, how can you stop it? “Since greying is often genetically
determined, it can be difficult to delay the inevitable,” says Shah. The
first step to keep greys at bay is to stop smoking, she says.
One study found smokers were 2.5 times more likely to spot grey hairs
prematurely than non-smokers. If you’ve quit smoking then B12
supplements or other B vitamins, like iodine and selenium, could build
up your B12 levels to keep the greys from taking over. Before you start
popping B vitamins like nut butter snacks, chat with your doctor or
healthcare provider about recommended dosages, advises Shah.
Onions have been used for thousands of years as an ingredient in various dishes by many cultures around the world.
These vegetable can be eaten raw, cooked, fried, dried or roasted.
They are commonly used as a flavouring and seasoning agent in many
dishes.
Apart from added an excellent taste to dishes, onions are also
provides many health benefits to its users. In Chinese medicine, onions
have been used to treat angina, coughs, bacterial infections, and
respiratory problems.
And even the World Health Organization (WHO) also supports the use of onions for the treatment of poor appetite and preventing atherosclerosis.
Some health benefits of onions are as given below:
Fight Cancer: Onion extract is rich in a variety of
sulfides, which provide some protection against tumor growth. Some
studies have showed, regular consumption of onions helps to reduce the
risk of several cancers such as colorectal cancer, oral cancer,
laryngeal cancer, stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, and ovarian cancer.
It is suggested to consume one onion serving per day (approximately 1/2
cup).
Cardiovascular Benefits: The regular consumption of onion
has been shown to lower high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
This is attributed to the sulfur compounds, chromium, and vitamin B6 in
onions, which helps prevent heart disease by lowering high homocysteine
levels, another potential risk factor for heart attack and stroke.
Reduce Blood Sugar Levels: The regular consumption of onions
also have been shown to lower the blood sugar levels. A study found
that, onions contain allyl propyl disulfide that helps to reduce the
glucose levels by increasing the amount of insulin.
Promotes Gastrointestinal Health: Onions packed with
enormous flavonoids, these flavonoids help to reduce the risk of colon
cancer. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors in animals and
to protect colon cells from the damaging effects of certain
cancer-causing substances.
Good for Skin: The onions help in stimulating the
circulation of blood in the mucous membrane. It can be applied as
poultice to boils, bruises, wounds, etc. Onion juice mixed with honey
also can be the best home remedy for acne.
Stimulate Hair Growth: Onion is rich in sulfur which is one
of the essential nutrients in promoting hair growth. A study has shown
that applying onion juice on scalp twice a week for 2 months will
stimulates hair re-growth.
Treats Cholera: Onion is an effective remedy for cholera.
Grind about 30 grams of onions with 5-7 black peppers. Have 2-3 times of
the mixture a day. This is effective treatment for cholera. On the
other hand, this also helps to lessens diarrhoea and vomiting.
Maintain Bone Health: A study revealed that onions also
possess the ability of building connective tissue and bone health due to
a newly identified substance in it called growth plate chondrocytes
(GPCs). Hence onions are very beneficial for women who are at a risk for
osteoporosis. There is also evidence to suggest that the risk of hip
fracture in menopausal women may be lowered through regular consumption
of onions.
Remedy for Cold and Flu: Onion is also a great remedy for
cold and flu. The Native Americans used them to ward off the common cold
and flu. The World Health Organization has even recognized the onion
for its ability to help relieve flu symptoms such as coughs, bronchitis,
congestion, and respiratory infections
Dating itself can be incredibly confusing, much less, defining what your relationship status is.
The difference between dating and being in a relationship can be subtle.
It is important to discuss relationship boundaries with the person
you are dating, and be clear in your communications with them. Commitment Conversation: The difference between dating and being in a relationship
is commitment. If you are going out with someone on a regular basis,
and you and your partner have agreed to date only one another, then you
are in a committed relationship. However, if you are dating a person and
neither of you have agreed to date exclusively, then you are not in a
relationship and you are both free to also date other people. Mutually Beneficial: Some of the most heartbreaking
relationship problems can be caused by lack of communication. It is
important to discuss your relationship status with your partner so you
can get on the same page. A mutual agreement is necessary for
determining where you are in your relationship. If any of this is
unclear to you, at any point in the dating process, you should discuss
it with your partner. Read also: 17 fun historic monuments to visit this holiday Managing Expectations: Prior to talking, you should
sort out how you feel about the relationship, aside from anything your
partner may feel, and decide what you want or need from your partner.
The book, “Getting Love Right: Learning the Choices of Healthy
Intimacy,” suggests asking yourself the following questions: “Are the
people you are presently involved with capable of giving you what you
want in a relationship? Do you share similar expectations for the
relationship? Are you currently involved with someone who has the
potential to be a healthy partner?” After giving these questions some
thought, you will need to have a discussion with the person you are
dating. Talk It Out: So, you are confused about the status
of your dating relationship and you need to have “the big talk”. How do
you bring it up? The best way to have this discussion is directly, and
in a friendly manner. Also, it is best talk in person. Discussing your
dating life via phone, e-mail or text allows for miscommunication. Be
direct and ask the person whom you are seeing if they want to be
exclusive or not. If the person you are seeing is reluctant to discuss
the status of your relationship, give them a few days to consider it. If
they still shy away from discussion, this could be a red flag. Confusing Behaviors: Occasionally, you might date
someone who displays confusing and sometimes manipulative actions or
behaviors. For example: You have discussed it and have decided not to
have a committed relationship, only casual dating. However, your date
becomes possessive when your cell phone rings, or someone says hello.
Or, your date will attempt to convince you that they are only seeing
you, but they won’t actually commit. In either of these cases, you
should reevaluate your relationship and consider whether or not you want
to be involved with a person who is manipulative.
Every child with asthma deserves to live life symptom-free, so they can be active and healthy.
Controlling
even the most severe asthma is possible. It requires families to have
access to health care and the professionals that can help get the right
treatment and management plan in place.
Asthma can be challenging to manage at times, but we have some
educational resources to help you learn more about asthma and what to do
when your child is experiencing symptoms.
This step-by-step guide will help you learn about asthma and what to do when your child is experiencing symptoms.
Step 1: Take Action Against Asthma: Most children with
asthma develop their first symptoms before they are five years old. If
you have a child who has trouble breathing, such as wheezing and
coughing, talk to your child’s health care provider about your concerns.
Step 2: Increase Your Asthma Awareness: The better you
understand your child’s asthma diagnosis, the more you can do to help
your child stay healthy and prevent flare-ups.
Step 3: Manage Asthma Symptoms: Working closely with your
child’s health care provider is the first step in helping to manage your
child’s asthma. Schedule an asthma check-up at least once a year and
more often if your child is having symptoms.
Step 4: Know and Avoid Asthma Triggers: Knowing the things
that cause your child’s asthma symptoms can help prevent asthma attacks.
Talk to your child’s healthcare provider about these common triggers.
Step 5: Gather Your Support Network: Educate all of the
people your child spends time with—teachers, coaches, day care
providers, relatives, and parents of friends. They are an essential part
of your child’s asthma management team.
A 24 year old trader, Mr. Methodus Chimaije Emmanuel, based in Pandogari, Rafi LGA of Niger State was on Saturday evening attacked and killed by a mob in the town.
Emmanuel was accused of posting a blasphemous statement about Prophet Mohammed on the social media.
According to Major NC Agwu, Assistant Director Army Public
Relations, troops of 31 Artillery Brigade of 1 Division, Nigerian Army
on operation MESA quickly intervened and restored law and order while a
dusk to dawn curfew was imposed in the town.
However, early the next morning, the rioters embarked on further
violence, looting shops and blocking the Lagos – Kaduna Road, a major
artery connecting the northern and southern parts of the country.
Agwu said that again, troops in conjunction with the personnel of
Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) took
control of the situation to forestall escalation of violence and any
threat to the peace in the town.
He continued that “regrettably, one church, one house and a shop
were burnt while 25 other shops were looted following the violence.
“Three other persons including a personnel of the NSCDC also lost
their lives. Some arrests have been made in connection with the violence
and the suspects handed over to the the police. The military and other
security agencies are currently embarking on confidence building patrols
in all nooks and crannies of the town.
“As part of the measures to de-escalate tensions and ensure a
lasting peace in the town, the military is working with the Local
Government Council authorities and community leaders, including the
Kagara Emirate Council to pacify all aggrieved parties and build on the
peace so far established.
“However, while the military will continue with its current
non-violent approach to maintaining peace in Pandogari town, it will not
take kindly to any unscrupulous element who would attempt to visit
violence on innocent and law abiding Nigerians. The general public is
therefore warned to abide by the conditions of the curfew so far
emplaced.
“All law abiding citizens are enjoined to go about their legitimate
businesses without any fear of intimidation. They are to be rest
assured that the security forces will remain fully present to guarantee
their safety and security across the length and breadth of the town,
within their rules of engagement.
The Nigerian Army has ruled out the possibility of engaging new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, in dialogue.
The Army, stated this while justifying its recent
operations in Gbaramatu, Delta State, adding that the use of force was
for now the only available option until leaders of the militant group
were apprehended.
A representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur
Buratai, Brig.-Gen. J. Hamakim, said this at the ‘State of the Nation
Conference’, organised by the Nigerian Bar Association in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Army had been accused during the conference of failing
to explore dialogue with the Niger Delta militants and resorting to use
of force which could lead to a war situation in the region and
attacking members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who were allegedly
demonstrating peacefully in Onitsha, Anambra State on Monday.
However, while responding, Hamakim said there was no sign that the Niger Delta Avengers’ members were ready for dialogue.
He said: “I quite agree that dialogue is very important.
But where it is not too obvious that the adversary is ready to come out
and talk, you can also force such a person.
“I think that is what the Nigeria Army is trying to do.
Yes, we don’t know the group’s leader, for now; that is the only
option, possibly we have to bring the people out to know who you can
dialogue with.”
According to him, the activities of the group were
affecting Nigerians as the nation’s oil production had recently further
plummeted to 1.1 million barrels per day.
Hamakim however denied that soldiers, who were involved in
the operations in Gbaramatu, were killing innocent residents and raping
women.
“We have done our investigation and nothing like that is happening,” he said.
On the IPOB demonstration that led to a clash between the
protesters and security forces leading to the death of two policemen and
30 others in Onitsha, Anambra State on Monday, Hamakim said the protesters were not peaceful.
“Remember that lives were lost, policemen were killed, some were thrown overboard and the military has rules of engagement.
“The question is how peaceful is the peaceful
demonstration. How peaceful was the demonstration at that time? If it
was that peaceful, how come we lost security agents?
“The rule of engagement is that if you feel threatened, you
have the mandate to respond. What we can say is that was not at all a
demonstration that you can say was peaceful.”
For ex-governors and former ministers who are yet to return their
diplomatic and official passports, the new sheriff in town in person of
the new Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS),
Muhammad Babandede is planning to arrest the culprits involved.
It was gathered that the new helmsman at the Immigration was given
the matching orders by the Federal Government in Abuja on Monday.
Babandede who spoke with newsmen at the maiden meeting with his men
said, the Service has so far retrieved about 158 diplomatic passports
and 310 of passports.
The service also placed a ban on the writing of petitions by its
officers, saying an avenue will be created monthly to hear views of
aggrieved officers without being punished for such views.
He also warned officers to desist from extorting money from passport
applicants at various borders/check points across the country.
Justifying the need for the order, he said: “I express my
appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for my appointment to lead
the NIS at this critical time of our national development. In view of
the earlier publication for return of official /diplomatic passports by
former political office holders and retired public servants, it must be
noted that charges will be pressed against unauthorised holders of such
documents. This is because, such persons are no longer in the
eligibility list and therefore in contradiction of S.10 of the extant
Immigration Act 2015.
“I am hereby directing that unauthorised holders of such passports be
arrested at the Airports and other points of entry/departure. Efforts
will be made also to trace such unauthorised holders in their given
addresses.”
While expressing disappointment on the activities of some officers he
described as “heartless officers who are setting up illegal check
points to extort Nigerians,” Babandede said he will hold the zonal
controllers and state command responsible for such act henceforth.
Manchester united's Morgan Schneiderlin has replaced the injured Lassana Diarra in France's squad for Euro 2016.
Diarra had been named in France's 23-man group for the tournament after making 33 appearances for Marseille this season. But an injury to his left knee has ended the midfielder's hopes of featuring in the competition on home soil.
Manchester United's Schneiderlin will now take his place as France aim to recapture the European title they last won 16 years ago.
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has called for
sweeping political reform
– He said Nigeria is failing as a state and its states
need greater autonamy
– The former leader made his comments while
attending the launch of the book ‘We Are All Biafrans’
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar said on Tuesday
that Nigeria, as it is currently constituted, is failing and
greater autonomy needs to be granted to the states,
the Premium Times has reported.
Mr Atiku made his comments while speaking at the
official launch of ‘We Are All Biafrans’, a new book by
journalist and scholar Chido Onumah, in Abuja.
Mr Atiku, who was Nigeria’s vice-president between
1999-2007, said Nigerians have suffered for too long
under a poorly designed constitutional structure.
Abubakar Atiku recently praised President Buhari for his
leadership
“Nigeria is not working, as well as it should and part of
the reason is the poor way we have structured our
economy and governance especially since 1960,” he said.
“The federal government is too big and too powerful
relative to the federating units. That situation needs to
change and calling for that change is patriotic.”
“We must refrain from assuming that anyone calling for
restructuring of our federation is working for the breakup
of our country. I reject that notion.”Mr Atiku, who chaired the book launch, said the federal
government cannot foster national unity despite its
enormous power, contributing to the many crises
Nigeria currently faces.
“An excessively powerful centre does not equate to
national unity. Absolutely not. If anything, it has made
our unity more fragile our government more unstable and
our country more unsafe. We must renegotiate our union
in other to make it strong,” he said.
“We must renegotiate our union in order to make it
stronger. Greater autonomy, power and resources for
states and local authorities will give the federating units
greater freedom and flexibility to address local issues,
priorities and peculiarities.”
Mr Atiku went on to urge Nigerians to embrace a
restructured Nigeria, saying it will also reduce the
importance politicians place on elections to federal
positions.
“Greater autonomy, power and resources for state and
local authority will give the federations units greater
freedom and flexibility to address local issues for their
priorities and peculiarities,” he said.
“It will reduce the premium placed on capturing power at
the centre. It will reduce insecurity. It will promote healthy
rivalry amongst federations units. It will help to unleash
our people’s creative energies and spur more
development.”
The launch of ‘We Are All Biafrans’, which the author
said tool him three years to put together, was attended
by former education minister, Oby Ezekwesili and civil
society leaders activists including Jubrin Ibrahim and
Nnimo Bassey.
The book, which explains how the agitation for Biafra is
actually a metaphor for all the tribes in Nigeria, was
reviewed by Chidi Odinkalu, a professor of law and
former chairman of the National Human Rights
Commission.
